Often, children are misdiagnosed with learning or reading disabilities due to undetected vision problems. To prevent misdiagnosis, look for the following symptoms of poor vision in your child’s reading, writing, and sports performances.
If your child frequently loses his place while reading; is reluctant to read at all; skips little words, but not big words; and has poor reading comprehension, he may be struggling with vision problems. When it comes to writing, ask if he has difficulty copying off the blackboard, check the spacing of his letters, and check to see if he reverses letters like “b” and “d.” If children are uncoordinated during sports, they may also have vision problems.
