The Himalayan Cataract Project

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world. Though there are many treatment options to remove cataracts or replace the damaged lens and restore vision, not everyone has access to the medical innovations necessary to treat this debilitating eye condition.

This video from the Himalayan Cataract Project chronicles the tale of an aging Nepalese woman who completely lost her vision due to cataracts that plagued her aging eyes. The Project, a non-profit foundation, focuses on preventing and curing blindness to underserved populations. Their work includes providing treatment for poor rural women like the one featured in this short documentary.
